Can Discover Folders function be used without the need for Unread Marks
Is it possible to use the Discover Folder functionality in an application where Unread Marks needs to be disabled?
This IBM technote would suggest No.

Unread marks can't be enabled on the application as it is replicated and used by many users. Enabling the unread marks impacts performance as covered in this technote:
