We are a small Domino development shop. We had Traveler 8.5 installed, then implemented the fix pack, then upgraded to 8.5.1.

I know have a mix of staff successfully using MS, Nokia and iPhones�to access. All working very well.

I've upgraded my 'home' server to v8.5.1 and have had no issues with Domino or Traveler, which I use on my Windows mobile device. I've also assisted a friend with two other upgrades. They had a few issues with Traveler 8.5.0.1 but so far 8.5.1 seems to have solved that.

I'd say it's save to upgrade to v8.5.1 and I'd do it sooner than later.�

Answer: Turns out that the Data Execution Prevention services were not allowing Java to run. �Once this was turned off the installation worked.

Answer: Not sure if your problem relates to a server upgrade or a fresh install, but there is a documented issue with the 1.3.1 JVM which is obsolete since ND7, and which the ND8 installer should� have removed - search the Domino folder (and sub-folders) and remove ibmjcaprovider.jar, then retry the install.

I was able to run the setup.jar it still blows up at the same point.� I have installed 4 different variations of java, and tried setting the path variable to point to the bin folder.

However when I do it that way it does give a more useful error, It says:

Errors occured during the installaion.
�. JVM not found

So clearly there is an issue with Java, but how to resolve?

Answer: If you use something like WinRAR, or whatever de-archiver you like, and extract out the main downloaded file.� Can you then launch just the setup.jar file without the windows exe wrapper?� If java is setup correctly, you should be able to just double click the setup.jar from explorer.

Answer: @Joe - what is failing is the downloaded install from IBM's site. �After it finishes extracting all the files it launches the JVM and then 50 percent into the install the installer dialog box just disappears and a java dlll error gets logged in the Event Viewer.

Answer: Off the beaten path question - what is the directory you are trying to install to?� There is an oldish issue with using directory names longer than the old DOS 8.3 standards - are you installing to some other directory name?

As for using Domino 8.5 for a Sametime server - It isn't a supported setup:

Also, a few other things - if you double click the setup.jar - what happens?

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm trying to install Domino 8.5 on a windows 2003 server.�� (To be used as a sametime server).

It does reside on a VMWare machine, as did our previous sametime server.

Actually, when the install gets to the Java piece, it just quietly closes.
When checking the event viewer we get this message.

Faulting application java.exe, version 141.2003.9.30, faulting module jvm.dll, version 141.2003.9.30, fault address 0x0015c03a.

Answer: What is the specific error? Which Sun Java release did you try? The installer itself uses it and I recall issues with the latest, so I am using 1.6.0_11.� Ensure that the environment "PATH" setting has the bin directory setup in it.� Also, in the control panel java app, that under Java runtime settings, you have the correct one enabled.
